Richard
We have a severe infestation of what we think may be cottony cushion scale which has attacked a holly hedge and pittsoporum hedge. Please help. Richard.

We have tried Natrasoap, Neem oil, White Oil mixed with
Malathion, Garlic Spray, and in total desperation - WD40! The last one kills the bugs, but is in danger of killing the plant as well.

Answer: Dear Richard,

You certainly must have a huge infestation of cottony cushion scale, particularly after using all the different chemicals and still having no luck in controlling this pest. This pest is present in large numbers in late summer/early autumn

I would only suggest you use products such as PestOil and White Oil and perhaps use either of these products on a regular basis until you have achieved some kind of control. You will need to spray every 10 days for PestOil. Don’t use the WD 40 again – the plants wont’t like it.
